Flex League Registration Closes Sunday, August 31st
Play tennis on your schedule!! Flex league registration closes August 31st. Season will run September 5th to November 20th. Singles cost is $25 for USTA members and $35 for non-members and $20 and $30 repectively for doubles and mixed.

James Lewis Tennis Center Events

One Day Summer Mixed Doubles Challenge September 6, 2014. Deadline September 1, 2014. James Lewis Tennis Center 2800 Ave K Birmingham, AL 35218. Entry fee is $40 per team $20 per person. Also our 8th Annual Magic City Tennis Tournament September 19-20, 2014 at the James Lewis Tennis Center. This is a non sanctioned event. USTA Men's Tennis League

USTA Men's Fall League to start in September!

Registration for the Fall season is open on TennisLink. The Fall season is considered a 2015 league.

This will include the 2.5-5.0 NTRP levels - there are 3 different age groups: 18&over; 40&over; 55&over.

The format for the 18's and 40's is 2 singles and 3 doubles (2.5 & 5.0 both play 1 singles and 2 doubles).

The format for the 55+ league is 3 courts of doubles.

Players bring their old wooden (or old metal rackets/no Wilson T-rackets unless they have a plastic guard) rackets, 80% white clothes and get ready for some old time tennis!

10 and Under BEGINNER Junior Team Tennis League
Registration for the USTA 10 and Under BEGINNER Junior Team Tennis League is now open at www.BirminghamJTT.com. Here are the facts:
  • League begins the week of September 15th and will run for six weeks.
  • The league will take place in Helena on Mondays, George Ward Park on Wednesdays and West Homewood Park on Thursdays.
  • The first two weeks of the league will involve instruction and the last four weeks will involve match play.
  • Players play all six weeks at the site where they are registered; there will be no travel.
  • THIS LEAGUE IS NON AGE ELIGIBLE, WHICH MEANS PLAYERS WHO PARTICIPATE DO NOT QUALIFY TO ATTEND THE STATE TOURNAMENT IN AUBURN NEXT SUMMER.
  • This league is only for beginners who are between 7 and 10 years old.
  • Play will involve shorter courts and use of the red low compression ball. Yes, red.
  • Cost $30
  • Loaner racquets are available.
  • There is space for only 24 players at each site. Right now we have 3 spots left at Helena, 19 spots at West Homewood and 21 spots at George Ward.
  • This league is intended to provide a positive first experience for kids trying out tennis and to help children learn to rally.

10 and Under Jamboree at Hoover Country Club
On September 13th, Hoover Country Club will host an Alabama Tennis Association event that is part of a NEW Fall Jamboree Series to introduce players from 6 to 10 years old to tennis! This event will not be in the typical Tournament format, but will be an introduction to Tennis to include an assortment of tennis activities and fun! This does not count toward any ranking or standings. No results will be posted.

Employment with Birmingham Area Tennis Association

Executive Director

The Birmingham Area Tennis Association ("BATA") is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that seeks to hire a part-time Executive Director. This position will begin with a training period in October with the current Executive Director. In November the successful candidate will become the new Executive Director. Although BATA promotes tennis generally, BATA emphasizes its Learning Excellence Through Tennis ("LETT") program for children. The LETT program involves in-school, after-school and summer participation opportunities with the goal of "improving lives through tennis and education."


The Executive Director will perform the following duties:

  • Manage existing and develop new in-school, after-school and summer programs, including hiring, training, and managing staff members for the programs.
  • Spearhead fundraising efforts including special events, individual donor campaigns, and grants.
  • Provide financial reports for the Treasurer.
  • Prepare program reports for board meetings.
  • Maintain inventory of tennis equipment and purchase equipment when necessary.

  • Job Requirements

  • Must be interested in a part-time job. YOUR COVER LETTER MUST EXPLAIN WHY PART TIME WORK FITS YOUR NEEDS BETTER THAN FULL TIME WORK.
  • Must be available some weekdays between 3:00 and 6:00 p.m. during the school year to visit program sites and ensure quality.
  • Must have a car and be able to drive to programs. Additionally, the person hired will often work from home and will need computer access and a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, and Excel.
  • Needs to maintain and update www.lettennis.org website as necessary.
  • Candidate needs to be able to cite examples of having conceived of and eventually completed projects with limited oversight.
  • Must have experience with event planning, sponsorship sales, grant writing and other forms of fundraising.
  • Candidate must have a genuine interest in youth development.
  • College degree preferred but not required.
  • Some background in tennis is strongly preferred but not required.

  • Hours and Pay: Hours are flexible and may be fewer than five or as many as twenty-five hours per week. During the October training period, pay will be $20.00 an hour plus a mileage stipend for driving to sites. Beginning in November the pay will be $23,000/yr. plus a stipend of $200/mo. to defray driving and telephone expenses.

    Program Director

    The Learning Excellence Through Tennis (LETT) program sponsored by the Birmingham Area Tennis Association (BATA), is dedicated to improving the lives of children through tennis and education. LETT seeks to hire a part-time Program Director. The position will report to the Executive Director, and will oversee and teach at LETT's after school tennis sites. This person will manage existing tennis programs and any new sites. This means visiting one or more sites on a daily basis and frequently helping conduct the program. The Program Director must have transportation and access to a computer and a working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. The ideal candidate will be a demonstrated self-starter and have experience working for a youth organization. Tennis experience is helpful.

    Hours and Pay: Hours are flexible. Average week will consist of 6-10 hours with hours increasing with the additional sites. Pay will start at $18.00 plus a monthly stipend for mileage.

    After School Program Instructors

    Do you ever finish a team clinic and feel like you didn't get a workout?

    If you answered "YES" to any of the above questions, then maybe you and your team should give CardioTennis® a try. USPTA Pro John Beaube is one of only a couple pros in Birmingham who have been trained in CardioTennis® and he is interested in giving you and your teammates a workout.
