Pelham Tennis Center Teams Advance to Nationals |
USTA Junior Team Tennis State Results |
Birmingham Junior Teams dominate at USTA Junior Team Tennis State Championships! Birmingham teams won all divisions except for the 10 and under intermediate division, which was won by Mobile. 64 teams participated with over 550 players!
Pelham Racquet Club teams, coached by USPTA Pro's Rusty Wilkes & Clay Parrish had another great state tourney!
12 & Under Intermediate Final: PRC Storm defeated Triple T's 24-20. PRC Storm went 3-0 in early round division play.
14 & Under Intermediate Final: PRC Lobster's defeated Tuscaloosa Crimson Aces 32-18 PRC Storm went 4-0 in early round division play.
Also, the PRC Pacer's 18's Intermediate & PRC Challenger's beginner 12's finished as State Finalist! Both Pacer's & Challengers went undefeated in early round division play, before losing close matches in the finals.
In the past 12 years, Pelham Racquet Junior Teams coached by Rusty Wilkes & Clay Parrish have now won an amazing 20 Alabama State Championships! PRC has also had 10 state finalist teams too.
The Triple T's team's coached by Mark Dayton had several state champions again this year too.
Triple T's won the 18 & under intermediate division 32-24 over the PRC Pacers.
Triple T's 12 & under intermediate team were state finalist.
Triple T's 12 & under beginner team won 29-28 over PRC Challengers.
Triple T's also won both the 10 & under, and 8 & under beginner divisions.
Congrats to Coach Marie Zassoda from Gardendale!
Gardendale won the 18 & under beginner division, & also had another team finish same division as state finalist.
Gardendale also won the 14 & under beginner divison.
Finally, congrats to the Pinetree RTA team as 18 & under advanced level state champions. Congrats to all the Birmingham area USTA Junior teams for another very successful state tourney! Good luck to the PRC 12's, & 14's intermediate teams, the 18's Triple T's intermediate team, & Pinetree RTA advanced 18's, at the USTA Southern Sectionals! These teams will advance to Lexington, South Carolina Aug 15-17 for sectionals to represent Alabama! Also, the Triple T's 12's state finalist team will advance to sectionals w/ a wild-card invitation.

FREE Tennis Festival at George Ward |
Kids will play tennis games and hit for prizes. No experience necessary!! This is for kids between the ages of 7 and 10 years old, as we will be gearing up for our fall beginner junior team tennis league.
Saturday, August 2nd from 11:00 to 12:30 a.m. at the George Ward Tennis Center (Birmingham)

Trussville YMCA Adult Summer Tennis Challenge |
August 8th - 10th the Trussville Y will host a FUN adult tennis event. Men's doubles, women's doubles and mixed doubles divisions are available. There will be a Saturday night cookout. The fee is $20 per person for YMCA members and $25 per person for nonmembers. Proceeds will be used for enhancements to the YMCA Trussville tennis facility.
A maximum of 16 teams per division. First round consolation giving players a 2 match minimum. Best 2 out of 3 sets with 10 point match tie-breaker for 3rd set. Tournament is for adults only; juniors may enter upon Tournament Committee approval. See Pam for USTA ratings if needed. ENTRY DEADLINE IS AUGUST 1ST!!

There will be a level 5 junior tournament at the George Ward Tennis Center on August 15th and 16th for kids ages 10 to 18.

Hopman Adult Tennis Camp at Hoover CC |
Night Adult Hopman Tennis Camp at Hoover Country Club. 6:00-9:00 pm Monday -Thursday August 11 - 14. 4 pupils per instructor. Interchanging Mixed Doubles in Luau fashion! Players dress in floral shirts, grass skirts or whatever makes them feel Hawaiian! Prizes for winners and best luau outfit. We will have fresh made Hawaiian baked goods, refreshments, etc.

Flex League Registration is Open |
Play tennis on your schedule!! Flex league registration is open until August 31st. Season will run September 5th to November 20th. Singles cost is $25 for USTA members and $35 for non-members and $20 and $30 repectively for doubles and mixed.

USTA Men's Fall League to start in September!
Registration for the Fall season will open onTennisLink on August 18, 2014. The Fall season is considered a 2015 league.
This will include the 2.5-5.0 NTRP levels - there are 3 different age groups: 18&over; 40&over; 55&over.
The format for the 18's and 40's is 2 singles and 3 doubles (2.5 & 5.0 both play 1 singles and 2 doubles).
The format for the 55+ league is 3 courts of doubles.

10 and Under BEGINNER Junior Team Tennis League |
Registration for the USTA 10 and Under BEGINNER Junior Team Tennis League is now open at www.BirminghamJTT.com. Here are the facts:
- The league will take place at three locations - Joe Tucker Park, Helena, Brock's Gap Intermediate School, Hoover, George Ward Tennis Center, Birmingham.
- The league will run six weeks. The first two weeks will involve instruction and the last four weeks will involve match play.
- Players play all six weeks at the site where they are registered; there will be no travel.
- THIS LEAGUE IS NON AGE ELIGIBLE, WHICH MEANS PLAYERS WHO PARTICIPATE DO NOT QUALIFY TO ATTEND THE STATE TOURNAMENT IN AUBURN NEXT SUMMER.
- This league is only for beginners who are between 7 and 10 years old.
- Play will involve shorter courts and use of the red low compression ball. Yes, red.
- Cost $30
- Loaner racquets are available.
- There is space for only 24 players at each site.
- This league is intended to provide a positive first experience for kids trying out tennis and to help children learn to rally.

CardioTennis® Team Workouts at West Homewood Park |
Do you ever finish a team clinic and feel like you didn't get a workout?
Do you and your teammates want to get in better shape?
Are you interested in trying something different?
If you answered "YES" to any of the above questions, then maybe you and your team should give CardioTennis® a try. USPTA Pro John Beaube is one of only a couple pros in Birmingham who have been trained in CardioTennis® and he is interested in giving you and your teammates a workout.

- Classes will take place at West Homewood Park
- Times will be based on what is convenient for your team
- Cost is $10 per player per clinic with a minimum of 6 and maximum of 8 players
