Pro Am at Riverchase CC to Benefit LETT Program

The Learning Excellence Through Tennis (LETT) program is partnering with Riverchase Country Club to host a Pro Am fundraiser to support after-school tennis and education programs that reach underserved youth. We invite you to support this worthwhile cause by participating in the Pro Am. Details:

Friday, August 8th Saturday August 9th

Open courts for practice 12:00-4:00 Continental Breakfast starts 7:30am

Warm up with the pros 4:00-5:00 Pro Am Match Rounds 3 and 4 8:30

Event Check-in 5:00-6:00 Slowest and Fastest Serve Competition

Pro Am Match Rounds 1 and 2 6:00-8:00 Pro Am Match Rounds 5 and 6 11:00-1:30

Pro-Pro Exhibition Matches 8:00-8:45

Entry fee includes T-shirt and Team Photo, Friday Dinner and Saturday Continental Breakfast and Lunch

FREE Tennis Festivals at Helena, George Ward

Kids will play tennis games and hit for prizes. No experience necessary!! This is ideal for kids between the ages of 7 and 10 years old, as we will be gearing up for our fall beginner junior team tennis league.

Saturday, July 26th from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at Joe Tucker Park (Helena)

Saturday, August 2nd from 11:00 to 12:30 a.m. at the George Ward Tennis Center (Birmingham)

Birmingham Area Tennis Association Seeks Associate Executive Director

The Birmingham Area Tennis Association (BATA) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that seeks to hire a part-time Associate Executive Director. For the right candidate, this position will transition into the part-time Executive Director position in 2015.

Although BATA promotes tennis generally, BATA emphasizes its Learning Excellence Through Tennis (LETT) program for children. The LETT program involves in-school, after-school and summer opportunities with the goal of "improving lives through tennis and education."

The Associate Executive Director will assist the ED with the following duties:

  1. Manage existing and develop new in-school, after-school and summer programs, including hiring, training, and managing staff members for the programs.
  2. Assist fundraising efforts including special events and grants.
  3. Coordinate the USTA's flex league program in Birmingham.
  4. Keep income and expenses up to date on QuickBooks and be prepared to generate reports for the Treasurer.
  5. Prepare program reports for quarterly board meetings, attend and be prepared to discuss the Executive Director report.
  6. Maintain inventory of tennis equipment and purchase equipment when necessary.
  7. Manage website and update social media.

Job Requirements

  1. Must be interested in a part-time job. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN A FULL TIME JOB, PLEASE DO NOT APPLY FOR THIS POSITION.
  2. Must be available some weekdays between 3:00 and 6:00 p.m. during the school year to visit program sites as well as 2 Saturdays out of the month from 9-11am.
  3. Must have a car, insurance and be able to drive to programs. Additionally, the person hired will often work from home and will need computer access and a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and QuickBooks.
  4. Candidate needs to be able to cite examples of having conceived of and eventually completed projects with limited oversight.
  5. Must have experience with event planning, sponsorship sales, grant writing and other forms of fundraising.
  6. Candidate needs to be able to demonstrate a genuine interest in youth development.
  7. College degree preferred but not required.
  8. Background in tennis is preferred but not required.

Hours and Pay: Hours are flexible and may be fewer than five or as many as twenty hours per week. Pay will be $18.00 an hour plus a mileage stipend for driving to sites. If this position transitions into the part-time Executive Director position, this will be a salaried position of $22,000 to start.
