LIFETIME TENNIS Summer Camp

The Life Time Fitness Summer Junior Tennis Camp is a 5 day program designed to methodically challenge players of all levels, ages 6 - 17. Campers must have completed first grade.

Our focus is player development based on a cooperative to competitive drill format to build and improve tactical and technical skills. All players are carefully grouped by the Coaching Staff according to both age and skill level.

Training includes: athletic development, stroke production, court movement, singles and doubles play, individual and team match play, tournament play, group lessons, and individual attention.

Birmingham Summer Youth Games

Trussville Racquet Club Programs
Trussville Racquet Club has ongoing summer clinics for Beginners on Mondays and Wednesdays at 9-10am.

Intermediate/Advanced clinics on Mondays and Wednesdays 10-11:30am.

We also have our Jump Start classes that are on Tuesdays at 5:30pm Ages 5-7 for this class. A great class for the younger beginner who wants to try tennis. Shelley Wirt is the tennis pro for these classes.

Also available are round robins for men on Mondays and Wednesdays at 6:30 and round robins on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:30pm for women. If you would like to be a sub for any of these round robins call and leave your
name, phone number and your level of play. There is no obligation and no charge for being a sub. You can also apply for a regular spot .

Ladies 101 Clinic

This is a fun class for the ladies that have never played before but have really wanted to try it! It is never too late to start learning tennis and it is such a terrific sport for you ladies! You will be amazed at how quickly you develop the necessary footwork and racket strokes! Once you decide you love the game, we will get you involved in our fun Round Robin's! We have a great group of ladies that play at the LJCC and would love to introduce you to them! Don't be afraid to come out and learn the game, you are missing out!

Beginner Ladies Clinic

Tuesday 9:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.

Fee: $16 MVP/$20 non-members

This class is for the ladies that would like to get started playing league tennis but have limited experience. Classes are here to build your confidence on the court. We use drills and match play to sharpen your skills and increase your chances of success on the court! Emphasis is on doubles and you will learn the proper positioning and tactics to be successful on the court with your partner! Great class with ladies just like yourself that want to get better!

Intermediate/ Advanced Ladies Clinic

Wednesday 9:30 a.m. - 11 a.m.

Fee: $16 MVP/ $20

1st class is free!

Class is geared toward the ladies that have been playing a while and have reached the 3.5 NTRP Level or higher. These ladies have been participating in league tennis and are ready to step up their games! Classes consist of drills to sharpen the strokes and match play to sharpen the mind! At the LJCC, we participate in USTA as well as LITL and they both involve doubles. In the class, we do a large number of drills that are doubles specific. If you are ready to take your game up to the next level, come out and try this class!

At the LJCC we have a terrific group of ladies that are the heart and soul of the tennis program. We participate in LITL and USTA and play year round. We invite you to come out and join our growing program! Clinics are offered five days a week and if we don't have a clinic day/time for you, let me know and we will start one! Call me and let's get you involved in our tennis program!

Ladies Open Clinic

Thursday 9:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.

Fee: $16 MVP/ $20

1st class is free!

This is an open clinic for all levels to enjoy! Classes consists of drills and match play to work on sharpening the skills! Really a great class since we normally have a variety of levels that attend and gives you a chance to meet a more diverse group of players!

Fit Tennis (formally called Boot Camp Tennis)

Wednesday/Friday 8:15 a.m. - 9:15 a.m.

Fee: $16MVP/ $20

1st class is free!

Fit Tennis is a new, fun way to get a high intensity workout and burn off some calories in a supportive group setting! Anyone can do Fit Tennis and you don't have to be a good tennis player to do it! It is playing tennis but with emphasis is on the workout! The high intensity drills will keep you moving regardless of your ability. You will be hitting a lot of tennis balls and doing all the strokes but it is a cardio workout! The pro's primary focus in on getting you the best heart pumping workout that you can have and still have fun! Everyone that does the class is very supportive of each other and we have a great time cranking up the boom box as we jam to some tennis!

Doubles Strategy (formally called Men's Tune Up)

Wednesday 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

Fee: $16MVP/$20

1st class is free!

This is an advanced co-ed class for guys and gals that want to improve their doubles play! Class will cover all aspects of the game of doubles and each player's responsibility during each point! Emphasis on teamwork and how each player must work together to increase the chances of success! Each class will work on court positioning using drills and points to sharpen our minds and strengthen our bodies! Recommend players be at least 3.5 NTRP rating for the class.

Team Tennis

The LJCC participates in USTA as well as Ladies Interclub Tennis League (LITL). The seasons overlap and there is almost always league tennis going on at the LJCC! The USTA have Women's, Men's, Mixed and Flex Leagues that we participate in. If you would like more info on league tennis please feel free to call me. Dale Clark 205-879-0411 ext. 226

Women's Teams

Currently the LJCC has teams playing at the 3.0, 3.5 and 4.0 levels and would love to have you come out and join our teams! Matches are during the week in the mornings and start at 9:30am.

Men's Team

Currently the LJCC has a men's team that play at the 3.5 USTA level. Matches are on week nights and vary season to season.

Ladies Combo Doubles Tournament

Monday, July 7

9:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Fee: $40 team

Fixed teams, so find you a good partner!

Each doubles team consists of two different levels combined to form an unbeatable combination! Combined NTRP of both players cannot exceed 7.0. Fixed teams will compete against other combo teams for the title! Round Robin format so be ready to hit a lot of tennis balls! Refreshments, drinks, snacks and prizes for the winners!

Youth Tennis

Tiny Tots (ages 4-5)

Tuesday/Friday 1:00 p.m. - 1:45 p.m.

Fee: $14 per class

This class is for the young kids that are developing their hand eye coordination. We use "kid" friendly equipment to make the learning much easier and FUN! We use short rackets, lower nets, low compression tennis balls and smaller court area! In a short period of time, the kids are hitting balls over the net like champions! My favorite part of working with the Tiny Tots is the fact that they never say never!

Junior Beginner (ages 6 and up)

Tuesday/Thursday 3:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Fee: $14 per class

This is a class for the kids that have never played before or have played very little. We go through the basics and work on footwork and basic stroke production. We want the young player to have a great experience learning how wonderful tennis is! Positive reinforcement and praise are important in giving the child confidence, as they develop their skills! We work on ball placement through dead ball as well as live balls drills and the kids learn to use strategy in playing points. The young players practice matches as well, to build their arsenal!

Junior Intermediate (ages 6 and up)

Tuesday/Thursday 4:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.

Fee: $14 per class

Class is for the kids that have the basic strokes and footwork but need to hone their skills to move up to the next level! Class is designed to teach these young players how to "think" on the court and develop tactics that will help increase their winning percentage! We want to teach the young players that in order to win, they have to play the "percentage" shot and teach when it is okay to go for the put-a-way and when to play it safe! Tennis is a mental game and goal is to teach these young players how to control their emotions and keep their mind on the game!

We also offer summer tennis camps!

The Summer Tennis Camps is for your child to learn the fundamentals of the game of tennis! Whether your child has never picked up a racket before, or has played quite a bit. Our LJCC Tennis Camp is going to excite your child about what a fun sport it is! Children are placed in groups with children of the same ability or age.

Camp II: August 4-8, 2014

Flex League Registration Opens July 18th
Play tennis on your schedule!! Flex league registration opens July 18th and closes August 31st. Season will run September 5th to November 20th. Singles cost is $25 for USTA members and $35 for non-members and $20 and $30 repectively for doubles and mixed.

Birmingham Area Tennis Association Seeks Associate Executive Director

The Birmingham Area Tennis Association (BATA) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that seeks to hire a part-time Associate Executive Director. For the right candidate, this position will transition into the part-time Executive Director position in 2015.

Although BATA promotes tennis generally, BATA emphasizes its Learning Excellence Through Tennis (LETT) program for children. The LETT program involves in-school, after-school and summer opportunities with the goal of "improving lives through tennis and education."

The Associate Executive Director will assist the ED with the following duties:

  1. Manage existing and develop new in-school, after-school and summer programs, including hiring, training, and managing staff members for the programs.
  2. Assist fundraising efforts including special events and grants.
  3. Coordinate the USTA's flex league program in Birmingham.
  4. Keep income and expenses up to date on QuickBooks and be prepared to generate reports for the Treasurer.
  5. Prepare program reports for quarterly board meetings, attend and be prepared to discuss the Executive Director report.
  6. Maintain inventory of tennis equipment and purchase equipment when necessary.
  7. Manage website and update social media.

Job Requirements

  1. Must be interested in a part-time job. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN A FULL TIME JOB, PLEASE DO NOT APPLY FOR THIS POSITION.
  2. Must be available on weekdays between 3:00 and 6:00 p.m. during the school year to visit program sites as well as 2 Saturdays out of the month from 9-11am.
  3. Must have a car, insurance and be able to drive to programs. Additionally, the person hired will often work from home and will need computer access and a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and QuickBooks.
  4. Candidate needs to be able to cite examples of having conceived of and eventually completed projects with limited oversight.
  5. Must have experience with event planning, sponsorship sales, grant writing and other forms of fundraising.
  6. Candidate needs to be able to demonstrate a genuine interest in youth development.
  7. College degree preferred but not required.
  8. Background in tennis is preferred but not required.

Hours and Pay: Hours are flexible and may be fewer than five or as many as twenty hours per week. Pay will be $18.00 an hour plus a mileage stipend for driving to sites. If this position transitions into the part-time Executive Director position, this will be a salaried position of $22,000 to start.
