USTA League 
  

     Registration for the Birmingham spring 40 & Over women's league opened on

TennisLink Wednesday, January 29th with the initial team registration deadline being Wednesday, Feb. 19th. The initial 8 players should be registered by the 19th. Maximum

number of player per team is 16.

 

     The Alabama regulation state that all local league matches for the 40 & over age group must be played and scores entered in TennisLink no later than May 12.

 

     The 2014 Alabama 40 & Over Championships are scheduled as follows:

40 & Over, levels 3.0 & 4.0 - Auburn May 29-June 1

40 & Over, levels 3.5 & 4.5+ - Pelham June 5-8

 

     The proposed weeknight play days (6:30 pm) are as follows:

            3.0 - Monday

            3.5 - Tuesday

            4.0 - Monday

            4.5+ - Tuesday

 

     Saturday - all levels 9:00 am

                                                                                                                                               

Birmingham Spring 18 & Over Women's League

 

            The Birmingham adult women's spring 18 & Over league registration will open on TennisLink Friday, January 31st with the initial team registration deadline being Monday, Feb. 24th. The maximum number of players per team is sixteen.

 

            The proposed weekday playdays (9:30 am) are as follows:

2.5    - Wednesday

3.0 - Friday

3.5 - Friday

4.0 - Monday

4.5 - Monday

 

Saturday (12:00 or 2:00) for all levels based upon court availability.

 

Proposed weeknight (6:30 pm) are as follows:

2.5 - Tuesday

3.0 - Thursday

3.5 - Wednesday

4.0 - Tuesday

4.5 - Wednesday

 

The 2014 Alabama Adult 18 & Over Championships will be held June 26-29 and hosted by Mobile, AL for all levels.

 

 

Birmingham Mixed Doubles Spring Registration

 

            Registration is open on TennisLink for the Birmingham mixed doubles 18 & over and 40 & over spring league. The initial six players should be registered by the deadline of February 20th. The maximum number of players per team is fourteen. National regulations do state that there can be no more than a 1.0 spread between partner's ratings. Each match should consist of three lines of doubles.

 

            The levels of play for the 18 & over level are 2.5, 6.0, 7.0, 8.0 and 9.0. The 10.0 level will be played at the state championships as the local league.

 

            The levels of play for the 40 & over level are 6.0, 7.0, 8.0 and 9.0.

 

            The majority of matches will be scheduled for Sunday afternoon at 2:00 but there could be some matches scheduled on a different weekday or time in order to finish the league season timely.

 

            Teams that win their local league are eligible to advance to the 2014 Alabama Mixed Doubles Championships hosted by Dothan, AL September 11-14th.

2014 ALABAMA COMBO 65 & OVER INVITATIONAL &

MIXED DOUBLES 55 & OVER INVITATIONAL

 

            Gulf Shores, Alabama will host the 2014 Alabama combo doubles 65 & over invitational as well as the mixed doubles 55 & over invitational April 10-13. All teams must be registered on TennisLink with their minimum six players no later than March 15th. The roster addition deadline is March 22nd.

 

            The facilities hosting matches are The Beach Club, Peninsula Racquet Club and Johnnie Sims at Gulf Shores City Courts. Due to a limited number of softcourts, the draw is limited for each level of play; therefore, please do not wait until March 15th to register your team as the draw could be full!

 

            The levels of play are as follows:

65 & Over Combo:

6.5 Women

6.5 Men

7.5 Women

7.5 Men

 

55 & Over Mixed:

7.0 Mixed

8.0 Mixed

 

            All levels should field three lines of doubles for each match playing a match tiebreak in lieu of a third set.

Men's USTA League  

The 55 & over Spring Registration onTennisLink opened January 23, 2014

 

Matches for the 55&over league will start in February.

 

The 18 & over and 40+ Spring Registration onTennisLink will open January 31, 2014

 

Matches for the 18's and 40+ will start early in March.

 

Team captains may choose when their home matches are to be scheduled according to facility availability and personal preference.

Inverness CC Level 4 Junior Tournament

LJCC Tennis 

The Levite Jewish Community Center is going to open their tennis courts so that non-members, for a fee, may play on teams already formed. The LJCC courts will also be available for lease to those teams looking for home courts in order to play in USTA and LITL league play.


The LJCC's Premier Court Surface provides the best of court cushioning. In comparison cushion values of Premier Court to clay or fast dry type surfaces, the numbers show that the Premier Court provides a cushion surface throughout the court, often time twice as much as the clay or fast dry court! This means that it is easy on the body! Players who do not like playing on a "hard" surface will love these courts! For more information, contact Dale Clark at dclark@bhamjcc.org.

 

ALSO... FREE tennis 101 clinics (month of March) for ladies that have never played before or very little. Clinic times are Mondays 11am. and Thursdays 7:30pm. Classes are limited to 8. Register on line at www.bhamjcc.org or call Priscilla 879-0411 ext. 257.

 

AND....Mixed Doubles Round Robin Mixer: Sunday, March 2nd (2pm. - ). FUN event for all levels and you do not need a partner to participate. Fee is $20 for non- JCC members and $16 for members. Snacks, drinks and prizes for winners!

Trussville Racquet Club will start their clinics with Shelley Wirt in February. Clinics are
Monday 4-5pm for beginners and advanced beginners. Monday 5-6:30 are intermediate and

LIFETIME Indoor After-School Tennis 

LIFETIME TENNIS is offering an after-school indoor tennis program.

 

Pre-futures (ages 4-5) Mon-Fri 3:30-4:00pm
Futures (ages 6+) Mon-Fri 4:00-5:00pm
Challengers (ages 8+) Mon-Fri 4:00-5:30pm

 

Futures

The Futures is designed or the beginner tennis player who is just geting started in tennis.  They will be introduced to competition and begin to develop the skills necessary to start their journey to beconming a future tennis champion.  Each Futures player will be assessed by our teaching pros and based on age and skill level will train with either the Red or the Orange ball. 

 

Challengers

The Challengers is designed for the intermediate tennis player who has begun to master the basics of tennis.  They will contine to develop their playing skills, understanding of tactics and scoring through competition based play and training.  Each Challengers player will be assessed by our teaching pros and based on age and skill level will be traning with either the Red, Orange or Green Balls. 

 

Champions (ages 9+) Mon-Fri 4:00-6:00pm
Grand Slams (ages 11+) Mon-Fri 4:00-6:00pm
The Champions and Grand Slams play on the outdoor courts.

LETT Program Seeks Volunteers

The Learning Excellence Through Tennis (LETT) program is seeking paid tennis instructors for its beginner level youth programs.  Training is provided. 

 

Tennis clinics at West Homewood Park ages 4-18 years Saturdays 9-10:30am.  

 

Seeking ways to give back to the community? Learning Excellence Through Tennis is looking for volunteers to help teach inner city after school tennis and life skills. Volunteer would be paired with trained tennis instructors. Programs are for youth ages 7-10 and will last for 10 weeks. Volunteer time once a week for an hour!
